A or AN

We use 'a' or 'an' with singular nouns, it is the indefinite article.

We use  'a' before consonant sound

   a book
   a cat
   a table
   a university


We use 'an' before vowel sound.

   an orange
   an apple
   an hour

Also remember that the plural is 'some'. Use 'some' only in the positive!
   some books
   some apples
